The Appeal of Camping as a Low-Cost Holiday

With economic pressure persistent, a weak pound and rumours that of a hot summer this year, many Brits have ditched the idea of a summer holiday abroad in favour of a leisurely break in the UK countryside. Short breaks abroad are the holiday type most likely to be dropped due to the economic situation (expected to be cut by 1 in 4 according to the Visit Britain’s credit crunch tourism report published this year). UK short breaks are predicted to be relatively less affected.
However, the same report notes that “for all holiday types planned, around half expect to find some way to save money; prime targets for reducing costs are accommodation, food & drink, and other secondary spend – aspects which are viewed as expensive but which are also relatively easy to control – allied to more time spent in planning and searching for the best deal. As a consequence, people are likely to become more careful, and less spontaneous in their holiday planning.”
Holidays are viewed less as a luxury and more of a necessity these days and many individuals are reducing spending on food/fuel/clothes in order to still afford a holiday, so there’s a good chance that given the circumstances, UK campsites will be full and popular countryside locations will be even busier than usual this summer.
